College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences
University of Duhok
Greetings! I am Dr. Shukri Haji Salih, a Professor and passionate educator specializing in Agriculture, Horticulture, and Pomology. Currently, I am honoured to serve as a lecturer at the University of Duhok, specifically within the Agriculture College's Horticulture Department in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Allow me to take you on a journey through my academic life and ambitions.
Overview
My academic journey commenced in 1998 when I joined the Horticulture department at Duhok University as a research assistant. Over the years, I diligently pursued higher education, earning my M.Sc. degree in 2003 and my PhD in 2012, both from the University of Duhok. In 2016, I assumed the role of Dean Assistant at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, where I served until 2020. In October 2022, I proudly accepted the position of Dean of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Duhok.
With over nineteen years of teaching experience, I am dedicated to imparting knowledge in various agricultural subjects to my students. As a supervisor of M.Sc. and PhD students, I find immense fulfilment in guiding aspiring scholars through their academic journeys. Additionally, I mentor students in executing horticultural projects and assist postgraduate students in data collection, summarization, and analysis.

Welcome, fellow academics and future horticulturalists! For over two decades, I've had the privilege of fostering a love for horticulture in students at the University of Duhok. This journey has instilled a deep belief in the power of education to empower and inspire. Today, I'm excited to share my teaching philosophy, a blend of experience and personal conviction, designed to make your learning journey as enriching as possible.
Education: A Journey, Not a Destination
Education, at its core, is a journey of exploration and discovery. As Aristotle said, it's about "exercising all the faculties to the fullest extent." Think of it as nurturing the potential within each student to become a well-rounded contributor to society. My role, then, is to act as a guide, fostering a love for learning and the tools needed to navigate the fascinating world of horticulture.
Learning: A Collaborative Exploration
I view education as a two-way street, a collaborative exploration where both student and teacher actively participate. Gone are the days of rote memorization and passive lectures. My classrooms are vibrant spaces for discussion, where I encourage questions, diverse perspectives, and a healthy dose of curiosity. By delving into the "why" behind the "what," we start on a deeper understanding of the fascinating world of horticulture.
